From the Webmaster.....
As you can all see, there have been some changes since my last message. First and foremost, someone from Puerto Rico hijacked the domain name of "www.drffa.com". So, I worked diligently to secure all of the other domain names that I could for our organization. Our new Domain Name is "http://www.drffa.us" and it will always be that from now on. Of course there are many ways to reach this address, including www.DallasRetiredFireFightersAssociation.com, www.DallasRetiredFireFightersAssociation.org, www.drffa.net, and www.drffa.org.
I will also be adding a mobile site for all of you who have a smartphone or internet access on your cellphone.

Webmaster, Dallas Retired Fire Fighters Association
Right now, this is the only page in the site!
1) The East Texas group of Dallas Fire Department retiree’s will meet at Papadale’s Restaurant located at 17280 west I-20 service road in Canton on the first Thursday of the even months at 11:00 AM.
This purpose of this website is for dissemination of information for the the Dallas Retired Fire Fighters Association members, the spouses and families of the Retirees, and people interested in the rich history of the Dallas Fire Department and the men and women who served in the Department.
History
In 2000, there was a retired fire fighter who approached Arlie Edwards, after he found out about a retiree who passed away and the retiree wasn't notified. He informed Arlie that the retiree's had adopted a telephone calling tree, but it was incomplete and in total disarray.
The Department always puts out Death and Funeral Notices across the in house communications system, but had no way of contacting the retirees. And there was not much interest in getting a system in-place for the retirees. Arlie decided to create a group and do the job himself. "After all, retirees are a bunch of backward old timers, who would not be computer literate, and how many could there be?" - Arlie Edwards
He got interest out of 19 retirees right away, and it quickly grew to way over 100 retirees. They first met at the Circle Grill in Garland and soon had to look for a larger place.
He found help in Benny Simons from the Mesquite Fire Department, who was also the President of the Texas State Fire Retirees Association.
They also formed the DFD Retiree RV Travel Club in 2000, with 20 rigs that showed up at the campout at Terrell State Park.
The Pension Board was looking electing a Retiree Trustee. A forum was held at the Training Center Auditorium. At that Forum, it was found that a majority of the retirees were interested in having an Association through a hand vote.
Finally, the Association was founded on September 12, 2002. The Annual Traphagan Retirees Picnic was started in that year too.
One more thing that became a reality from this Association, is the DFR Walk of Honor at the Dallas Fire Department's Dodd Miller Training Center at 5000 Dolphin Rd, Dallas, TX.
There is tons of information that will be added at a later time. Please look for these items coming to the "About" page in the near future. - Webmaster
